We are a group of volunteers representing the patient's voice and providing support to Partners and Staff at College Surgery.

arroe Key objectives for the Group

- Supporting Doctors and Staff to deliver effective health care

- Providing talks, contacts and activities to assist patient care

- Assisting in the provision of equipment and facilities not normally provided by the NHS

There is a revolution going on in Primary and Secondary Health Care concerning services in the local community and we would like your input and involvement with opinions on how you see the changes benefiting or hampering your current treatment or expectations of the Surgery as a whole.

The Patient Support Group can provide you with a Voice that is sought after and listened to by the Doctors and Management Team.

As a group we would welcome your participation and opinions, please consider becoming an active member. You can Register your interest below via the Contact Us link and would be welcome to join us at one of our regular practice meetings to have your say.

PCB Practice Based Commissioning

What is practice based commissioning (PBC)?
PBC is about engaging practices and other primary care professionals in the commissioning of services. Through PBC, people in the front line are being provided with support to become more involved in commissioning your care.

Under PBC, practices receive information on how their patients use health services. This information can be used for the redesign of services by people in the front line for the benefit of patients.

What are the benefits of PBC?
Practice based commissioning gives clinicians greater freedoms and flexibilities to tailor services to the needs of the local community.

Through this, the quality and choice of services will improve. Patients will benefit from more services being provided with greater convenience in the community. In particular, patients with long-term conditions will be able to benefit from more personalised care.

PBC is also good for taxpayers. The accountability and support we are putting in place will ensure the best use of public resources.

What is Choose and Book?
Choose and Book is a new service that allows you to choose your hospital or clinic and book an appointment with a specialist.

Since summer 2004, Choose and Book has been introduced across England. It will eventually be available to all patients.

As long as the technology is functioning from 1 January 2006, when you and your GP agree that you need to see a specialist, you will be able to choose from at least four hospitals or clinics. You will also be involved in the timing of your appointment.
